The Election

It would seem that we are in the run up to a general election here in the UK.  Not officially – but everyone is acting like it anyway.  So here are my thoughts on the subject as a Christian.

a)  Make sure you use your vote.  Don’t sit this one out!

b)  Pray about it.

b)  Ask yourself the question – who would Jesus vote for?

Say One For Me Vicar

One of the things that is often shouted at you in the street whilst wearing a dog collar is “say one for me vicar”.  Our diocese in Wakefield has jumped on this idea for lent and is offering an opportunity for people who don’t attend church to have their prayers offered at the intercessions.

If you would like your prayers to be included you can have them said at morning prayer at the Wakefield Cathedral by emailing sayoneformevicar@wakefield.anglican.org.  Alternatively, I will pray your prayers with the others at morning prayer if you post them here or tweet them to me.

Lets bring everyone to God in prayer.

Rowan Williams on Fresh Expressions

It would seem that since the General Synod of the Church of England, Fresh Expressions have been given much more prominence.  Jonny Baker has pointed to a podcast by Nomad, a missional community in Nottingham.  They have managed to get together a podcast interview with the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams.  Now – the things he says are not particularly new if you have had your ear to the ground and been listening to the sound of the FE horses coming from afar.  However, he coherently puts a lot of the ongoing conversation into an easily digestible and ‘Anglican friendly’ package.

Please give it a listen.

Fresh Expressions at Synod

If I am honest, it is my day off and I would go mad if I kept working through it but….

This week has been the General Synod of the Church of England (my beloved institution and employer).  The twitterverse has been going mad with comment about the goings on.  One thing that happened was the presentation of a report on Fresh Expressions by Graham Cray.  If you look at my twitter stream from yesterday you will notice that a lot of the comments I retweeted are all about what was said.  Fresh Expressions have itself written a “bedtime reading” summary of it all.

So why am I blogging it and what is my comment on it?

That is just the thing…. I want a minute to digest it all and see what I actually think about it.  It is an unusual thing for me to be saying.  I normally reflect off the cuff as I go along like most extroverts.  There is just so much being said about it from so many sources.  Plus, as I have said, it is my day off and I am already telling myself off for working.

If that annoys you, why not check out what Jonny Baker has said about it in his first post and his second post.  He has some good thoughts on it all and more importantly – he has hopes for the future!!

Robin Hood Tax

I have just watched this video.

As a Christian I don’t see how I could justify not showing my support for this.  Social justice is right up there in Jesus list of priorities – so I must make it one of mine!
