As part of my attempt to put together a resource that catalogues showing all things emergent in the North of England, I have created a new page on the changing worship site. Click on the tab at the top to see what is there. More importantly, let me know what is going on so that it can be posted up there!

Now I tend to steer clear of the nonsensical and rather trivial debate between creationists and evolutionsists. However, it is a long time since something had such a high profile as Ben Stein’s Expelled. I first heard about the tactics employed to obtain sound bites a few weeks ago. There is an interesting article at about it here. It would seem that this film will continue the cause of those who are determined to erode the christian faith… by their actions in the name of Christ.
And now the majority opinion becomes this.

This is possibly the most disturbing news I have seen in a long time. Unfortunatly it does have a direct implication for the Emerging Church. As we engage with culture within the context of church it creates in groups and out groups. Is this always a good thing in a society that can react with such violent consequences towards people who are part of an identifiable cultural group?

I just had a Father Ted moment. The Catholics I work with were watching this.

Looks like something is happning in the North. More specifically it is happening in Manchester. Dirty mother is a month long exhibition in Nexus focused on climate change. It is a partnership between Christian Aid, Sanctus1 and Nexus.
You now get to be i the priestly role and hear my confession. I hadn’t really heard of Sanctus1for a simple reason. I sport a white rose and they sport a red one. In the north of England the pennines form a pretty convincing barrier. We are united by the most congested section of motorway in the UK. As I contemplate going on retreat near Warrington this weekend I am daunted by the prospect of getting past Ikea and around Manchester within any useful time frame.
So here is my pledge. I will try to be a better networker and see what is happening on the other side of the hill.

I know what you’re thinking and I can’t quite believe that I am writing this either. The BBC has a news report that is worth contemplating. Could your last act of worship be a decorated coffin? Tell me what you think.

The British National Party stuffed a leaflet through my door last night. In other news, it is 30 years since Rock Against Racism first started.
The 1st of May is your opportunity if you live in the UK to tell racists where we stand on this issue. I want to wake up and find that the BNP no longer have a councilor in my ward! Vote early. Vote often!!

Ok, I know I am a day late. I was just browsing through some news articles and I came across this article about St George.
St George is fast becoming a rallying point for groups such as the British National Party to espouse it’s racist views acoss the country. However, there is a movement to bring some reality back when recounting the Patron Saint’s tales. As with otr patron saints, St George wasn’t English.
So the question I have is who is trying to rewrite history? The people who have this mythical image of St George and the dragon or the people who have this mythical image of george the stand up geezer who opposed the evil empire? 😆
Perhaps we have all got it wrong somewhere…
