Thanks for your insight Julz. I’ll have a think about that. At my inner core I rail when I hear the word marketing in proximity to God. It is incongruous. The churches that do marketing are not usually places I’d like to be.

Much to ponder.

I guess I must be “very strange indeed” then.
Give me a minute and i will tray and act surprised….

But I am in the role of communication for a minority activity that offers tremendous physical and psychological benefits to followers of ‘the way’ – so do understand something of the problems of building a website to bring people into the fold.

I fall back of a few marketing maxims:
1. Sell the benefits
2. Triage your audience – treat believers, seekers, and doubters to their own door
3. AIDA – Attention, interest, desire, action. By the time they are on your site they are already at the cash register – without promotion, word of mouth, external advertising – there will be noone to pick up on nuances the Point of sale advertising.

Not specifically telling you this – you have a well developed public brand, but the dialogue between leaders of all stripes is either constructive or a pleasant distraction.

Robb, I don’t disagree with your fundamental premis in this series, but how does one negotiate the path between the ‘deploring tribalism’/resisting the ‘they’re not-christian’ judgemental modus you indicate here and standing against that which we DO deem to be perversions of the Gospel and which we do NOT wish others to associate with Christianity? I tend to say ‘well it’s not what I understand Christianity/the Gospel/the Way to be about’ – but the implicit subtext is ‘I don’t recognise the people expressing these views/carrying out these actions as being ‘Christian’ (in the way that I am)’.
